MisenlogicGuide

Your questions about Misenlogic, answered.

Straight answers on Misenlogic: recipe costing, Nutrition Facts labels, how current costs stay across units, moving your data over, hardware, and pricing.

Misenlogic is a multi-tenant food-service ERP for multi-unit operators, commissaries, and manufacturers: one login for your recipe costs and your nutrition labels, kept correct as your prices and formulas change, with your data moved over for you. Below are the questions operators ask most, answered plainly. For the full picture, start with recipe costing, nutrition labels, and how we move your data over, or see all of Misenlogic.

Does Misenlogic do recipe costing?

Yes. It costs every recipe from the ground up. It follows the sub-recipes within a recipe as deep as they nest, adjusts each ingredient for its edible-portion yield after trim, and adds packaging and prep labor, so what you get is a true plate cost, not ingredients multiplied by quantity.

It is also honest about what it does not know. When an ingredient has no price yet, Misenlogic does not guess: it marks the plate cost incomplete and names how many ingredients are missing a cost, so a margin never reads better than it is. You can cost from your vendors' quoted catalog prices or from the actual weighted-average cost of stock on hand, and switching between the two is reversible and previews what would change first.

More detail on how plate cost is built.

How does Misenlogic make a Nutrition Facts label?

It builds the panel from the data you enter. Misenlogic reads the recipe's full ingredient tree, including nested sub-recipes, resolves each ingredient to grams, and produces a Nutrition Facts panel to the FDA 15-nutrient set, applying the 21 CFR 101.9 rounding rules in one engine and checking them against a second. An ingredient with no nutrient data is flagged for review, never counted as zero, and a value that cannot be determined renders blank rather than as a fabricated number.

Misenlogic follows the FDA formatting, rounding, and allergen-declaration rules from the data you enter. It is not an FDA approval or a lab result, and the operator remains the party who confirms and signs the label. You can produce the label as a PDF or PNG, a nutrition spec sheet as a PDF, and ZPL output for Zebra thermal printers with the recipe GTIN-14.

What about allergens, and do I even need a nutrition label?

These are two separate questions, and blurring them is the most common mistake, so keep them apart.

Whether you need the Nutrition Facts panel depends on how and where you sell, how much you make, and how the food is presented. Some small businesses qualify for an exemption from the panel format. That is not the whole story, because being exempt from the panel does not exempt you from declaring allergens. Under federal allergen rules there is no small-business carve-out: if your product contains one of the major allergens (the Big 9, including sesame), it has to be declared, whether or not a full panel is required.

Misenlogic handles both. It rolls up allergens across the whole recipe tree: declared allergens form the Contains statement, supplier and shared-facility flags are held as advisory for review, an unreviewed ingredient is marked unknown and never treated as allergen-free, and a label carrying an unverified allergen will not render. Nutrient-content and dietary claims, such as gluten-free or low-sodium, are yours to make; the tool computes the values, you own the claim.

How current are my costs across every location?

They stay current on their own. A recipe's cost does not hold still: vendor prices move, yields vary, formulas change, and the plate cost your menu was priced against drifts out of date. Right for a day, wrong for a month. Misenlogic keeps it current instead.

Change a vendor's price once, and it flows to every recipe built on that ingredient, directly or through a sub-recipe, across every location, the next time each recipe is opened and within about a minute. Nothing to re-run, nothing to re-key. Competitors store a number; we compute it fresh at view time from today's prices, so the margin you see reflects today's invoices, not last quarter's.

Do you move our data over from another system?

Yes, and we do it by hand as part of onboarding. When you come aboard, we bring your recipes, sub-recipes, vendor items, and label data across, matched against your catalog and reconciled line by line, with anything uncertain held for confirmation before it is trusted. Nothing is guessed or silently dropped, and everything remains exportable.

Before we call the move done, you get a row-by-row reconciliation to review and sign off, with allergens and nutrients reconciled so nothing is quietly lost, and there is a rollback if anything is not right. Read more about how migration works.

Do I need special hardware?

No. Misenlogic runs in a web browser on the computers and tablets you already have. The line uses a tablet-friendly kitchen screen that scales the batch, runs step timers, keeps the screen awake, and lets a cook scan or key a lot code using the device camera where the device supports it. If you want thermal labels, Misenlogic produces ZPL output for Zebra thermal printers with the recipe GTIN-14. There is nothing to install and no server to run.

What does Misenlogic cost?

Misenlogic is built for teams running more than one kitchen, commissary, or production site, and we scope it to your operation, with your data moved over as part of onboarding. Tell us about your operation and we will scope it with you. Contact us for pricing.

Is my data private?

Your records are yours. Cost and margin are hidden from the roles that should not see them, enforced in the database itself rather than only on the screen, so a tablet on the line never exposes the P&L. Your records are not used to train outside systems, and data retention is limited under the data processing agreement that governs your account. You can export everything, anytime, in a documented format, so you are moving into a system you can always walk out of with your data intact.

Is Misenlogic available in Spanish?

Not yet. The application is in English today. Spanish rendering is on the roadmap.

Ready to see it on your own recipes?

Misenlogic keeps every recipe's cost current, carries your ingredient and Nutrition Facts label data on that same record, and moves your data over for you. Tell us about your operation and we will scope it with you.
